Guitar Lessons

David Mayers is a NYU Steinhardt Graduate and is currently a New York based guitarist and musical director.  He has played Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Tenor Banjo, and Mandolin for numerous off Broadway shows, regional theatres and New York City Cabarets.  David provides New York City and Brooklyn based in-person instruction as well as online lessons (Zoom/Facetime) for students of all experience levels.  David teaches a range of styles, including rock, blues, jazz along with scales, rhythm changes, chords, theory and other techniques.

Guitar lesson can be in person in the New York City or Brooklyn areas as well as online guitar lessons on Zoom or Skype.

Guitar Lessons

I offer private guitar lessons to students of all skill levels.  Lessons in acoustic & electric guitar covering all styles of music.  You will learn to read music & charts,  scales, chord forms, and how to apply it to master the fretboard.

Tenor Banjo Lessons

Tenor banjos are generally used for traditional Jazz, Irish music and Musical Theatre Pits and are traditionally played with a flat pick.  You will learn Chords, Roll Patterns and Strumming Techniques.

Mandolin Lessons

You will learn the basics of Mandolin, how to play different styles including classical, traditional Irish and Bluegrass as well as mandolin techniques like tremolo, double-stops, two-string melodies, and more.

Beginner

Lessons will cover basic technique, chord shapes, chord block diagrams, learning the fret board, scales, finger picking, strumming patterns and basic music theory.

I will help you develop good habits and a solid foundation to start playing guitar.  My student portal will allow students to scheduled lessons and log their practice time.

Intermediate

Lessons will cover reading and improvisation, Introduction to different musical styles, chord voicings barre chords and comping.

Introduction to advanced scales and modes.  Level 2 Music theory, Understand and identify chord progressions and substitution chords.

Advanced

For players that already familiar with the guitar, as well as material for advancing techniques and learning specialized topics.

Introduction to guitar doubling, advance sight reading and improvisation, stylistic playing, ensemble playing, and music business insights.
